Asynchronous time integration while achieving zero interface energy
Dvořák, Radim; Kolman, Radek; Falta, J.; Neühauserová, M.
2023 - English
This contribution deals with an asynchronous direct time integration of the finite-element model. The proposed method is applied to the phenomenon of wave propagation through an elastic linear continuum. The numerical model is partitioned into individual subdomains using the domain decomposition method by means of localized Lagrange multipliers. For each subdomain, different time discretizations are used. No restrictions for relation between subdomain’s time steps are imposed. The coupling of the subdomains is forced by an acceleration continuity condition. Additionally, we use the a posteriori technique to also provide the displacement and velocity continuity at the interfaces, and hence we obtain exact continuity of all three kinematic fields. The proposed method is experimentally validated using the modified SHPB (split Hopkinson pressure bar) setup. Keywords: finite element method; direct time integration; asynchronous integration; domain decomposition; localized lagrange multipliers Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Fiala, L.; Ballo, I.; Kovář, J.; Fuis, Vladimír
2023 - English
Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to study the difference between using Berkovich and conical indenters in nanoindentation test of tungsten specimen. The study was aimed to determine the\nmodulus of elasticity of a tested specimen and how it changes with different indenter. The FEM analysis also revealed that the modulus of elasticity was sensitive to the dimensions of both specimen and the indenter for which were made several numerical calculations with different dimensions. Keywords: nanoindentation; FEM; Berkovich indenter; conical indenter; tungsten Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Improving computational efficiency of contact solution in fully resolved CFD-DEM simulations with arbitrarily-shaped solids
Studeník, Ondřej; Kotouč Šourek, M.; Isoz, Martin
2023 - English
The abundance of industrial processes containing both solid and liquid phases generate demand for fully resolved models allowing for detailed analysis and optimization of these processes. An established approach providing such models is based using a variant of an immersed boundary method to couple the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM). In the talk, we will present our custom and monolithic implementation of a fully-resolved CFDDEM solver and concentrate on the intricacies of solving contact between two arbitrarily-shaped solids. We shall propose an efficient contact treatment based on the concept of a virtual mesh, which provides the mesh resolution required by DEM through dividing the space around the contact point in a finite volume fashion without any changes to the CFD mesh itself. A substantial part of the talk will devoted to the parallelization of the contact solution, especially in the context of the domain decomposition method imposed by the CFD solver. Keywords: CFD; DEM; virtual mesh Fulltext is available at external website.

Výpočty výměníku mezi primárním okruhem a meziokruhem malého modulárního reaktoru DAVID
Kobylka, D.; Hrubý, Jan; Kordík, Jozef; Gabriel, Dušan; Marek, René; Isoz, Martin
2023 - Czech
The report summarizes the joint results of the Department of Nuclear Reactors FNSPE, CTU and IT CAS, in the area of thermal and hydraulic calculations of the heat exchanger between the primary and intermediate circuits of the developed small modular reactor (SMR) DAVID. The assignment parameters were further specified during control days and with updated documentation. During the analysis of the initial system parameters, it was found that the original geometric configuration of the exchanger had a completely insufficient surface for heat transfer. A decision was made, several parameters were modified and based on a series of calculations using two independent simplified models, a reasonable configuration with a significantly smaller diameter of the tubes in a significantly larger number was chosen. The pressure losses on both sides of the heat exchanger are within normal ranges and will not cause problems with the construction of these circuits. Although there are differences between the results from both used models, their comparison shows that the chosen different calculation methods lead to approximately the same results and the models do not show fundamental errors. Statistical Approach for BTT probes distribution
Mekhalfia, Mohammed Lamine; Procházka, Pavel; Šmíd, R.; Tchawou Tchuisseu, Eder Batista
2023 - English
Blade tip timing (BTT) system is a non-invasive method used for measuring the blade tip timing of rotating machinery. The BTT system typically consists of sensor probes, signal conditioning system, and data acquisition unit. The sensor probes are placed in proximity to the rotating blade tips, Sensors measure the time at which each blade passes by the probe. By measuring the blade tip timing, the BTT system can detect changes in the blade tip vibration, which is an important for the health monitoring and performance optimization of rotating machinery [1]. To ensure accurate measurement of blade tip timing, the probe arrangement is crucial. The placement of the probe relative to the blade tips can affect the measurement accuracy, and thus, several arrangement algorithms have been developed to optimize the placement of the probes. Instead of considering the condition number, a statistical algorithms is followed to optimize the placement of probes for accurate measurement of blade tip timing in turbo-machinery. The statistical approach will be employed to determine the optimal locations for probes, with the aim of reducing errors in the measurement of blade tip timing. \n Keywords: blade tip timing principle; RMSE; blade´s dynamics Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Střední úroveň řízení měniče FB-MMC s topologií Delta
Kokeš, Petr
2023 - Czech
Regulace modulárního vícehladinového měniče (Modular Multilevel Converter, MMC) je technicky podstatně komplikovanější, než měniče klasického, a to nejen kvůli velkému počtu jednotlivých buněk. Control of a modular multilevel converter (MMC) is technically far more complicated than control of a standard 2-level converter. It is not only because of a great number of series-connected cells. For a MMC converter we need to cope with another control level (mentioned here as the middle-level control), which means balancing of voltages among MMC branches and the control of currents circulating inside this converter. For the Delta connected MMC with full H–bridge (FH) cells a convenient method for voltage balancing among all three MMC branches has been analysed and the appropriate control structure has been designed. Then the functionality of this balancing method has been verified using computer simulations and also tested with two MMC physical models operating as active power filters on 400V and 6kV grids.
