Josef Kajetán Tyl’s Nocturnal Strolls. The Urban Periphery in the 1830s in the genre of scene from life

2015 - Czech Around the mid-1830s, the genre from life, subsequently renamed to sketch, found its way into the Czech literary context. In terms of content, the genre’s focus was notably on the subject of urban life and its social aspects. The everyday reality of a big city and its geographical as well as social periphery had been previously viewed, from the aesthetic perspective of Czech society of the time, as a schockingly inappropriate theme. J. K. Tyl’s unfinished series of sketches, Z nočních potůlek po městách prazských (Nocturnal Strolls through Prague’s Quarters“), marked the first times Czech readers were confronted with the world of prostitutes, alcoholics and gamblers. In the mid-1830s, it represented, alongside Mácha’s Marinka, a unique attempt at introducing into Czech literature a previously tabooized theme, together with a new style of writing which could be defined as protorealistic. Kolem poloviny 30. let 19. století došlo k transferu žánru obrazu ze života, později podle ruského vzoru nazvaného črta, do českojazyčného literárního prostoru. Tematicky se tento proud obrátil především k tématu města a jeho sociálním problémům. Každodennost velkoměsta a jeho geografická i sociální periferie byla doposud z estetické perspektivy soudobé české společnosti vnímána jako šokující nepatřičnost. Tylův nedokončený cyklus Z nočních potůlek po městách prazských zavedl čtenáře vůbec poprvé přivedl mezi prostitutky, alkoholiky a falešné hráče. V polovině 30. let byl spolu s Máchovou „Marinkou“ ojedinělým pokusem vnést do české literatury dosud opomíjené téma i nové postupy psaní, jež můžeme označit za protorealistické. Soup for poor children in satirical magazines

2015 - Czech The study is concerned with the subject of poor people and charity, in a "disharmonic" line represented primarily by satirical texts in satirical magazines and in other periodical´s humour departments. Satire is employed there to confront the humanitarian ideal with its practical implementation in real life. There is evident the radicalization in the satirical perspective from approximately the 1890s until the outbreak of the First World World. Particular attention is devoted to Jaroslav Hašek and Josef Lada. Their output demonstrates that the antithesis of ideal versus reality came to be newly manifested not in terms of socially targeted satirical criticism, but rather as an implicit trait of an absurd world, involving in the cases of Hašek and Lada their methods of slapstick comedy and motifs of black humour, without an explicit moralizing message. Téma chudých lidí a dobročinnosti je v české literatuře 19. století velmi frekventované a výrazné. Linie populární filantropické literatury, nabádající širší vrstvy k zájmu o dobročinná zřízení, má ovšem svou paralelu, a to linii „disharmonickou“, zastoupenou především satirou na téma dobročinnosti a příbuzná témata, v satirických časopisech a rubrikách. I tato linie chce zcela zřejmě působit na formování společnosti. Satira pak konfrontuje ideál humanity a praktickou realizaci ve skutečnosti. Příspěvek chce především ukázat na typických příkladech vývoj tématu a radikalizaci v satirické perspektivě, zhruba od 80. let 19. století do začátku 1. světové války. Podrobnější pozornost je věnována kanonickým autorům Jaroslavu Haškovi a Josefu Ladovi a jejich posunu v interpretaci tématu. Dílo těchto autorů ukazuje, že antiteze ideál versus realita se nově manifestuje ne ve formě společensky zacílené satirické kritiky, ale jako součást absurdního světa, s autorským využitím postupů grotesky a černého humoru, bez morálního hodnocení. Nový kult as a Platform for the Socially Excluded?

2015 - Czech This essay deals with the anarchist review Nový kult, published and edited by the author S. K. Neumann. The focus here is on period after the year 1900, when Neumann persued his self-proclaimed aims in attempting to transform what was originally a social and cultural magazine into a purely political mouthpiece which would have aspired to find a mass-scale repercussion among the working classes, and would thereby become an ideological platform for bringing together the “intelectual” and “pragmatically oriented” streams of the anarchist movement. Basing herself in an analysis of the contents of Nový kult during the period under survey, as well as of how the journal’s policy envisioned its model reader, the author concludes that the implementation of the periodical’s original vision ran up against major obstacles, ending up in a state of affairs where it catered much rather to the interests and concerns of a radically oriented young intelligentsia whose members were at that time still finding it hard to assert themselves in practical life. Příspěvek je věnován anarchistickému časopisu Nový kult, vydávanému a vedenému spisovatelem S. K. Neumannem; pozornost se soustřeďuje na období po r. 1900, kdy se Neumann dle svých proklamací pokoušel přetvořit původně společenskou a kulturní revui na politickou tiskovinu, která by našla masovější odezvu mezi dělnictvem, a stala se tak ideovou platformou propojení „intelektuálního“ a „prakticistního“ proudu českého anarchismu. Na základě analýzy obsahu Nového kultu v tomto období i toho, jakým způsobem je v listu konstruována modelový čtenář, docházíme k závěru, že se prvotní vizi dařilo naplňovat jen obtížně a že list daleko spíš sleduje zájmy a problémy mladé inteligence radikální orientace, která v dané době zatím jen obtížně hledala uplatnění v praktickém životě. 2015 - Czech The present study is concerned with the Czech translation of the treatise Certamen spirituale by Lorenzo Scupoli that was copied in 1702 in Pilsen by Jan František Ebel. The manuscript was found during the process of cataloguing the Franciscan library from Hořovice, deposited from the end of 1990s in the Strahov library under the signature Kl 769. Příspěvek se věnuje překladu spisu Certamen spirituale od Lorenza Scupoliho, který si roku 1702 opsal Jan František Alexius Ebel v Plzni. Rukopis byl objeven při katalogizaci františkánské knihovny z Hořovic, uložené od konce 90. let 20. století ve Strahovské knihovně pod signaturou Kl 769.
