Double rebirth. The Czechoslovak people´s arty 1989-1992

The text depicts the ways in which the Czechoslovak People’s Party (ČSL) formulated, re-told, or otherwise dealt with its own past within the socialist dictatorship and the communist past in general. It is suggested that the rhetorical figure of „party rebirth“ made it possible to leave out the fourty years‘ collaborationist existence and to tie the post-1989 democratic phase directly to pre-1948 ČSL. Yet another rebirth under Josef Lux left out even the leaders of the first rebirth, including Josef Bartončík and the scandal of his cooperation with the secret police. However, both of the turns have built on the idea of a „healthy undercurrent“ of the ordinary party members that carry on the party’s „real identity“ whatever the time and regime. Text se zabývá tím, jak Československá strana lidová po roce 1989 formulovala a (pře)vypravovala svou vlastní minulost v socialistické diktatuře. Rétorika „stranické obrody“ jí umožnila pominout kolaborační existenci strany a navázat jakoby přímo na ČSL před únorem 1948. Další „obroda“ proběhla za předsednictví Josefa Luxe. Oba tyto obraty stavěly na představě „zdravého spodního proudu“ obyčejných straníků, které v každé době a každém režimu udržovaly „pravou identitu“ lidové strany.

Based on archives, written memoirs and literature on history of science, the paper describes the teaching and research activities of physicist and philosopher Ernst Mach (1838-1916) during his stay in Prague in 1867-1895 within a broader frame of physics at Prague University of that time. Mach´s engagement in the Prague (German) Naturhistorical Association „Lotos“ is mentioned as well. The professional carriers of some of Mach’s Prague university students and assistant are included.

Cottage dwelling is a specific phenomenon widespread massively in Czechoslovakia of the second half of 20th century. One may characterize this phenomenon as all activities inside the country village object originally built for other than recreational purposes. It is typical for the Czech cottage dwelling that its demonstrations are not limited to one narrowly oriented social strata; the phenomenon has infiltrated, in fact, the entire Czech society. Autorka se v příspěvku zabývá chalupářskou subkulturou v Československu především v období tzv. normalizace, kdy se tento typický český fenomén díky několika faktorům masově rozšířil. Autorka dochází k závěru, že normalizace nezapříčinila vznik chalupaření, dala mu však specifické zabarvení. Chalupy nebyly chápány pouze jako rekreační obydlí, ale jako skutečný druhý domov. Chalupaření se stalo svérázným jevem, který v menší či větší míře spoluvytvářel i měnil charakter krajiny, kulturu bydlení a také sociální jednání městských lidí.

Post-war restitution in Czechoslovakia and related problems

To face up to the war time period was very difficult in the post-war Czechoslovakia and determined by the war experience in both parts of the republic (Czech countries and Slovakia) which in fact affected the state approach to the restitution – first starting with the unique willingness, later changed according to the ideological and political limits. The conference paper is focused on several particular cases with the emphases on the activity of the National Administration of Property Assets and on the different approach to the restitution (emigrants, Jews with German nationality and so-called repatriates). V poválečném Československu byl přístup k vyrovnání se s obdobím války velmi složitý, determinovaný válečnou zkušeností obou částí republiky (české země a Slovensko), což také výrazně ovlivnilo vztah státu k restitucím. Jeho počáteční jednoznačná vstřícnost byla postupem doby stále více limitována ideologicky a politicky. Příspěvek se, na příkladu některých konkrétních případů, zaměřuje na činnost Národní správy majetkových podstat a na různorodý přístup k restitucím (k emigrantům, židům německé národnosti a tzv. navrátilcům).

V poválečném Československu byl přístup k vyrovnání se s obdobím války velmi složitý, determinovaný válečnou zkušeností obou částí republiky (české země a Slovensko), což také výrazně ovlivnilo vztah státu k restitucím. Jeho počáteční jednoznačná vstřícnost byla postupem doby stále více limitována ideologicky a politicky. Příspěvek se , na příkladu některých konkrétních případů, zaměřuje na činnost Národní správy majetkových podstat a na různorodý přístup k restitucím (k emigrantům, židům německé národnosti a tzv. navrátilcům).
