Global climate change and regional impacts on forests in Beskydy Mts

Beskydy Mts. is a region with a relatively high probability of expansion of serious Norway spruce stand fade-away types which are accompanied with gradations of insect pests and fungi pathogens as mortal factors. The study is focused on individual factors of change of forest trees growth conditions: increased CO2 concentration, drought, temperature, extreme weather, dimming effect, nitrogen deposition. Furthermore, it recapitulates briefly current state of forest stands in Beskydy Mts. and it defines procedure of estimation of spruce stand degradation risks. Beskydy jsou oblastí s relativně vysokou pravděpodobností rozvoje závažných typů chřadnutí smrkových porostů, provázených gradacemi hmyzích škůdců a houbových patogenů jako mortalitních faktorů. Příspěvek se věnuje jednotlivým faktorům změny růstových podmínek lesních dřevin: zvýšená koncentrace CO2, sucho, teplota, extrémní jevy počasí, dimming effect, depozice dusíku. Dále stručně rekapituluje současný stav lesních porostů v Beskydech a definuje postup odhadu rizika rozpadu smrkových porostů a stanovuje hodnoty faktoru ohrožení pro nejvýznamnější hospodářské soubory.

The effect of elevated air CO2 concentration on water regime and transpiration of Norway spruce

Under the elevated CO2 air concentration, changes in physiological processes and morphology were evident in relatively short time. Direct measurement via heat pulse method proved reduction of specific sap flux throw the stem in the first year of cultivation in elevated CO2. SSF in both treatments was comparable in the next tree years. During the sixth year of fumigation, higher transpiration rate in trees growing under elevated CO2 was recorded. It was implication of larger bearing leaf area, larger conducting vessels area on the in crosscut stems section and larger root absorbed area. Continuously sap flow measuring of sun and shaded part of the crown was found that SSF of higher crown part was higher in both treatments. Average hydraulic conductance soil-leaf (GTsa) was 1,4 times higher in sunny part of the crown than estimated for the whole crown in ambient treatment A (ambient [CO2] concentration). Difference in hydraulic conductance between the upper and lower crown part of the E treatment (doubled [CO2] concentration of A treatment) was not so pronounced. Při zvýšení koncentrace CO2 ve vzduchu jsou změny ve fyziologických procesech a morfologii zřejmé v relativně krátké době. Přímé měření pomocí metody tepelných pulzů dokázala snížení specifického sap flow (SSF) během prvního roku kultivace ve zvýšené CO2 koncentraci. SSF bylo srovnatelné v obou podmínkách po další 3 roky. Během šestého roku fumigace byla zaznamenána vyšší rychlost transpirace při vyšší koncentraci CO2. To byl důsledek větší listové plochy, plochy cévních svazků na řezu a větší absorbční kořenovou plochou. Měřením sap flow osluněnýé a zastíněné části koruny bylo zjištěno, že SSF bylo větší ve vyšších částech koruny v obou podmínkách. Průměrná hydraulická vodivost (půda-list) (GTsa) byla 1.4 krát vyšší v osluněných částech koruny než odhadnutá pro celou korunu v podmínkách normální koncentraci CO2. V podmínkách zvýšené koncentrace CO2 nebyl rozdíl v hydraulické vodivosti mezi horní a spodní části koruny prokázán.
