Influence of oxygen concentration on the primary radiation damage of DNA caused by charged particles (electrons, protons, alpha particles) has been studied using the theoretical model RADAMOL. Pomocí teoretického modelu RADAMOL byl studován vliv koncentrace kyslíku na výtěžky primárních poškození DNA způsobených účinkem nabitých částic (elektronů, protonů, alfa částic). Several examples of applications of the nuclear physics are presented in this article. Nuclear and subnuclear physics enables us to describe the fundamental level of existence of matter and to contribute to the research and development of new materials and technologies simultaneously. Radioizotopes nowadays are very helpful in diagnostics and therapy of cancer. The main task of this article was introducing of nuclear physics as a broad research discipline with fundamental results and also functional applications. V článku je uvedeno několik příkladů aplikace jaderné fyziky v mnoha oborech lidské činnosti. Jaderná a subjaderná fyzika je schopna popsat fundamentální úroveň existence hmoty a současně přispívat k výzkumu a vývoji nejnovějších materiálů a technologií. Radioizotopy jsou dnes nezastupitelným pomocníkem v diagnostice a léčbě nemocí, což je na několika příkladech také ukázáno v tomto článku. Účelem je představit tento obor fyziky jako vědní obor s širokým záběrem základního výzkumu a současně jako obor s velmi specifickými aplikacemi. Microdosimetry distributions of energy depositions by charged particles in liquid water and water vapor

Frequency and dose distributions of deposited energy were modeled for protons and alpha particles with energies between 1 to 10 MeV/amu. Calculations were performed for spherical volumes with radii 1nm to 1um. Mean values and shapes of distributions were compared for liquid water and water vapor. Frekvenční a dávkové distribuce deponované energie byly modelovány pro protony a alfa částice s energiemi v rozsahu 1 až 10 MeV/amu. Výpočty byly provedeny pro kulové objemy s poloměry 1nm až 1um. Byly porovnávány střední hodnoty a tvar distribucí deponované energie ve vodě a vodní páře.
