Science and Army - Science and War (1914-2004)
2006 - Czech The publication includes papers given at the conference „Science and army - science and war (1914-2004)“ which took place in Prague in November 2004. The book also includes a round-table discussion on topic „Science and army at the present“. The conference was organized by the Masaryk Institute of the ASCR in cooperation with the Institute of Strategic Studies of the University of Defense in Brno and the Research Centre of History of Science and Humanities in Prague. Most of the papers focus on the various problems of science and military affairs in the 20th century. Some of them also discuss problems of the present military research or the changes of the defensive doctrine of the Czech Republic. Sborník shrnuje příspěvky ze stejnojmenné mezinárodní vědecké konference, která se konala ve dnech 24. - 25. 11. 2004 v Praze. Konferenci uspořádal Masarykův ústav AV ČR ve spolupráci s Ústavem strategických studií Univerzity obrany v Brně a Výzkumným centrem pro dějiny vědy, společným pracovištěm ÚSD AV ČR a UK v Praze. První den konference byl věnován vlastním referátům, druhý den se konal diskusní kulatý stůl na téma Věda a armáda v současné době, jehož průběh je ve sborníku rovněž zachycen. Jednotlivé příspěvky si všímají změn, k nimž v průběhu 20. století došlo ve vztahu vědy a vojenství a připomínají též úlohu vědců samotných a jejich zodpovědnost za zneužití výsledků vědeckého výzkumu ve válečných konfliktech. Většina referátů je zaměřena na první polovinu 20. století, některé pak přibližují vliv vědy na změny v soudobém vojenství nebo sledují proměny české obranné doktríny a stav současného obranného výzkumu v České republice. 2005 - Czech The proceedings of two workshops (2004, 2005) in the cycle entitled "By Invitation of Masaryk Institute" are included in the collection of papers of the same name. The workshops deal with questions that are still alive, and with the main features of modern Czech and European history. They are intended for the specialized and general reader. The first workshop was dedicated to Czech political realism at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries, the important ideological stream, which was traditionally represented by T. G. Masaryk. The second workshop, named Expectations and Frustrations: Memories of the Third Republic, offered interesting personal testimonies of active participants of political events between 1945-1948. Sborník obsahuje příspěvky ze dvou seminářů, které se uskutečnily v letech 2004 a 2005 v rámci cyklu Na pozvání Masarykova ústavu, zaměřeného na stále živé otázky a fenomény novodobých českých i evropských dějin a určeného jak širšímu spektru odborníků, tak laické veřejnosti První seminář byl věnován českému politickému realismu na přelomu 19. a 20. století, představujícímu významný dobový ideový proud, tradičně personifikovaný T. G. Masarykem. Druhý seminář, nazvaný Naděje a zklamání. Vzpomínky na třetí republiku, přinesl zajímavá osobní svědectví aktivních účastníků politického dění let 1945-1948, reprezentujících tehdejší národně socialistickou, sociálně demokratickou a lidovou stranu. Jejich vzpomínková ohlédnutí doplňuje dosud nepublikovaný memoárový text dr. Bedřicha Rattingera, ve sledovaném období tajemníka komunistického poslaneckého klubu v Ústavodárném národním shromáždění, o zákulisí únorového převratu 1948.
