The search for the grave of Abbess-Princess Mlada

2023 - Czech The sister of Prince Boleslav II Princess Mlada is among the persons associated with the beginning of the Prague bishopric. As the founder of the monastery of St. George was worshiped in it. The place of her burial was forgotten and searched for since the Baroque period. In this context, attention is paid to the graves JK-102 and JK-110 in the chapel of St. Anne in the monastery and also to the relics taken from this chapel in the 17th century. Grave JK-110 was newly dated to around the year 1000. Mezi osobami spojenými s počátkem pražského biskupství je také sestra knížete Boleslava II. kněžna Mlada. Jako zakladatelka kláštera sv. Jiří v něm byla uctívána. Místo jejího pohřbu bylo zapomenuto a bylo hledáno od doby barokní. V této souvislosti je věnována pozornost hrobům JK-102 a JK-110 v kapli sv. Anny v klášteře a také ostatkům vyzvednutým v této kapli v 17. století. Hrob JK-110 byl nově datován do doby kolem roku 1000. Tombstones of the Švamberks of the 15th – early 17th Century from an Art Historical Perspective

2023 - Czech Only a fragment has remained from the original collection of the Švamberk family tombstones that was still quite large at the beginning of the 18th century. Surprisingly,\neven though the Švamberks were a prominent noble family, the surviving works usually show average or below-average quality which, as far as the 15th century works are concerned, reflect the prevailing condition of sepulchral sculpture in Bohemia of the time. More factors could have been behind opting for an austere form of the tombstone. In addition to the Utraquist criticism of majestic funeral works and the lack of high-quality stonemasons after the Hussite Wars, it could be the general idea of resistance to pride and accentuation of the confirmation of Christian modesty regardless of the buried person’s confession.\n Z celkového, na počátku 18. století ještě bohatého konvolutu náhrobků rodu Švamberků se dodnes dochovalo pouhé torzo. Překvapivý je fakt, že ačkoliv šlo o významný šlechtický rod, dochované práce jsou většinou průměrné nebo podprůměrné kvality, které, zejména pokud jde o díla z 15. století, odrážejí převažující stav sepulkrální skulptury oné doby. Při zvolení prosté formy náhrobku mohlo hrát roli více faktorů. Kromě utrakvistické kritiky majestátních funerálních děl i nedostatku kvalitních kameníků po husitských válkách to mohla být obecně i myšlenka vzdorování pýše a důraz na osvědčení křesťanské skromnosti bez ohledu na konfesi pohřbeného. Kosher in lexicography. Problems of one religion term

2023 - Czech The Hebrew term košer (‘kosher’) came into Czech through Jewish sociolect / ethnolect. It was originally a religious term for what is ritually pure and appropriate. In addition to the adjective and adverb košer, Czech dictionaries also contain a number of other forms and derivatives, but some of them are no longer used at the moment (e.g. košerný, košerně). Our evaluation is based on an analysis of material base from the Syn2015 Corpus and from a probe into contemporary texts in Jewish magazines or on the websites of Jewish communities and organizations. In Czech dictionaries, we may see a reduction of the meaning compared to how the term is traditionally used in the Jewish community, e.g. the adjective košer is limited to meat, the verb košerovat is associated only with the ritual slaughter. The nouns mentioned in the dictionaries are also very debatable: masculine košer in the sense of ‘butcher’ and masculine košer with the meanings of ‘cut’ and ‘food appropriate for Jews to eat’, these are based on isolated documents from the works of authors apparently unfamiliar with the Jewish community. The question then is whether (and according to what criteria) such words should be included in the dictionaries. Hebrejský výraz košer se dostal do češtiny prostřednictvím židovského sociolektu/etnolektu. Jedná se původně o náboženský termín označující to, co je rituálně čisté a vhodné. Vedle nesklonného adjektiva a adverbia košer je ve slovnících češtiny zachycena i řada dalších tvarů a odvozenin, některé z nich se však již v současnosti neužívají (např. košerný, košerně). Při jejich hodnocení vycházíme z analýzy dokladů z korpusu Syn2015 i ze sondy do soudobých textů v židovských časopisech nebo na webech židovských obcí a spolků. Ve slovnících češtiny se též v některých případech můžeme setkat se zúžením významu oproti tomu, jak je výraz tradičně užíván v židovském prostředí, např. adjektivum košer je v SSJČ omezeno pouze na oblast masa, sloveso košerovat je spojováno jen s rituální porážkou zvířat. Velmi diskutabilní jsou také substantiva uváděná ve slovnících: životné maskulinum košer ve významu ‚řezník‘ a neživotná maskulina košer s významy ‚zaříznutí‘ a ‚pokrm židům k požívání dovolený‘, ty vycházejí z ojedinělých dokladů z děl autorů zřejmě neznalých židovského prostředí, o němž (přesto) psali. Je potom otázkou, zda (a dle jakých kritérií) by taková hesla měla být do slovníků zařazena. Common Nouns denoting a Larch Tree in Non-Settlement Place Names in Bohemia

2023 - Czech The paper deals with the use of the common noun modřín (larch) and its dialectal variants in non-settlement place names in Bohemia. The focus of the research is to find out which dialectal words denoting a larch tree are included in the names, and to state their number, geographical occurrence and other characteristic features. Attention is paid not only to the common nouns which are used in non-settlement names frequently (verpán, merfán, modřín, břím, dřín), but also to the dialectal words which appear in names rather scarcely (lerpán, relpán, tis, klenč, skřivánčí). Příspěvek se zabývá apelativem modřín a jeho nářečními variantami v pomístních jménech v Čechách. Cílem výzkumu je zjistit, které nářeční varianty označující modřín se v anoikonymii Čech vyskytují, a určit jejich početní zastoupení, zeměpisné rozšíření a další charakteristiky. Analyzována jsou nejen anoikonyma vycházející z apelativ, která jsou v pomístních jménech na území Čech zastoupena ve větším množství (verpán, merfán, modřín, břím, dřín), ale pozornost je věnována i nářečním výrazům, které se v anoikonymii vyskytují spíše sporadicky (lerpán, relpán, tis, klenč, skřivánčí). 2023 - Czech The research report summarises three years of research of opportunities and limits of participatory housing in the Czech Republic, based on an analysis of the situation abroad, the historical context and the institutional background in the Czech Republic. In the second part we present the results of field research - data analysis from research workshops in partner cities and from an exploratory questionnaire. We present findings on residents' preferences on participation issues, confidence in implementing participatory housing projects, funding issues, governance, barriers or challenges. In the final section, we summarise the opportunities and limitations for participatory housing arising from the cooperation between residents and cities. Výzkumná zpráva přináší shrnutí tříletého výzkumu o možnostech a limitech participativního bydlení v ČR. V první části představujeme konceptualizaci participativního bydlení vycházejí z analýzy zahraniční situace, historického kontextu a institucionálního zázemí v Česku. V druhé části přinášíme výsledky terénního výzkumu – analýzy dat z výzkumných workshopů v partnerských městech a také z explorativního dotazníku. Přinášíme zjištění ohledně preferencí obyvatel v otázkách participace, důvěry v realizaci projektů participativního bydlení, otázek financování, správy, překážek či výzev. V závěrečné části shrnujeme, jaké možnosti a limity participativního bydlení vyplývají ze spolupráce obyvatel s městy. 19th Century Methodology of Art History and Research from the Perspective of Progress

2023 - Czech The paper analyses the possibilities that opened up in the period 1981–1990 for the interdisciplinary research of Historicism in the former Czechoslovakia, given by the founding tradition of the Pilsen symposia. On the one hand, the researchers followed the current ideas of “art and progress” dealt with Ernst Gombrich (1971). From the opposite side came supporters of the idea of “rationality and irrationality” of development as a source of intellectual and aesthetic authenticity of 19th century works, such as jako Rudolf Chadraba, Jiří Ševčík, Helena Lorenzová a Vladimír Macura. Příspěvek zkoumá možnosti, které se otevřely v období 1981–1990 interdisciplinárnímu výzkumu historismu 19. století v tehdejším Československu, v souvislosti se založením tradice plzeňského sympozia. Z jedné strany badatelé sledovali aktuální myšlenky „umění a pokroku“, s nimiž vystoupil Ernst Gombrich (1971). Z opačné strany přicházeli zastánci myšlenky „vývojové racionality a iracionality“ jako zdroje myšlenkové i estetické autenticity děl 19. století, jako Rudolf Chadraba, Jiří Ševčík, Helena Lorenzová a Vladimír Macura. Ivan Borkovský. An archaeologist between legends, two world wars and two totalitarian regimes

2023 - Czech Archaeologist Ivan Borkovský led the technical and later professional research of Prague Castle for more than forty years, in addition to dozens of other sites. He is one of the most prominent personalities of Czechoslovak and Czech archaeology of the Middle Ages. He was a colleague and teacher of a number of prominent archaeologists, historians and architects. Yet there are unknown moments in his personal life and in his fate in the tense periods of the 20th century. In the memoirs of his students and colleagues, there are stories that have become legendary in the nearly fifty years since his death. But most of them are not based on truth. The question is whether Ivan Borkovský himself gave rise to these stories or whether they were written later and what role the personality of the narrator played in them. The presented text focuses on these twists and turns in his life and attempts to confirm or refute the oft-repeated clichés through archival research. Last but not least, the thesis aims to pave the way for a more comprehensive treatment of his scholarly legacy, which will not be possible without an understanding of the pitfalls that accompanied his life. Archeolog Ivan Borkovský vedl více než čtyřicet let technicky a později i odborně výzkum Pražského hradu, vedle toho se věnoval desítkám dalších lokalit. Patří k nejvýraznějším osobnostem československé a české archeologie středověku. Byl kolegou a učitelem celé řady významných archeologů, historiků a architektů. Přesto v jeho osobním životě a v jeho osudech ve vypjatých obdobích 20. století jsou neznámé momenty. Ve vzpomínkových textech jeho žáků a kolegů se vyskytují příběhy, které se za téměř padesát let od jeho smrti staly legendami. Většina z nich se ale nezakládá na pravdě. Je otázkou, zda podnět k těmto příběhům dal Ivan Borkovský sám nebo zda vznikly později a jakou roli v nich sehrála osobnost vypravěče. Předkládaný text se věnuje především těmto zvratům v jeho životě a pokouší se archivním průzkumem potvrdit nebo vyvrátit často opakovaná cliché. V neposlední řadě je cílem práce připravit půdu pro komplexnější zpracování jeho odborného odkazu, které nebude možné bez pochopení úskalí, jež jeho život provázela.
