The study is devoted to folklore within the contemporary society. It deals with the meaning of the term, as well as with the development of the interest in folklore in the Czech lands and the relation of the professional and amateur public to this category of intangible cultural heritage. Studie je věnována folkloru v současné společnosti. Zabývá se významem termínu i vývojem zájmu o folklor v českých zemích a vztahu k odborné i laické veřejnosti k této kategorii nehmotného kulturního dědictví.

From a Living Tradition to the Theory: Comments on the Origin of the Term ‘Zahušťování’ in Janáček’s Terminology

The contribution of Czech composer Leoš Janáček (1854–1928) to music theory has been appreciated especially in the field of harmony. Within the context of music theory, Janáček's ideas on the 'thickness' of harmonic material first appeared in his study O skladbě souzvukův a jejich spojův (On the Construction of Chords and their Connections) in 1896. The term became fully developed and frequently used in his Úplná nauka o harmonii (The Complete Harmony Theory) in 1920. The origin and the use of the term by Janáček can be documented in connection with his experience with and discoveries from traditional folk music. Příspěvek českého skladatele Leoše Janáčka (1854-1928) se v hudební teorii oceňuje zejména v oblasti harmonie. V rámci hudební teorie, Janáčkovy myšlenky o "tloušťce" harmonického materiálu, se poprvé objevily v jeho studii O skladbě souzvuků a jejich spojů (na stavbě akordů a jejich spojů) v roce 1896. Termín se stal plně vyvinutým a často používaným v jeho Úplné nauce o harmonii (Kompletní teorie harmonie) v roce 1920. Původ a použití Janáčkova termínu je dokumentován v souvislosti s jeho zkušenostmi a objevy z tradiční lidové hudby.

From Variability to Creativity: on the emergence of new folk songs in Moravia and Silesia in the second half of the 20th century

The autor comments on the proces of the creation of new folk songs: in specialised literature, such a process is called the utmost form of variation changes. Field research documents several types of variations, such as from random changes to regular changes, changes in the completion of song parts (such as new stanzas), the creation of lyrics or composing the melody, up to creating a completely new song. Autorka objasňuje proces vytváření nových lidových písní. V odborné literatuře je tento proces označen jako nevyšší forma variačního obměňování, od nahodilých změn přes dotváření částí písní například složením nových slok, vytvoření nového textu nebo nápěvu až ke složení kompletní nové písně.

Barriers and limits of research in ethnomusicology as evidenced in the recordings of the Working Committee for Czech National Folksong in Moravia and Silesia in 19019-1912

This contribution analyses particular situations occurring in the course of the phonographic recording by the Working Committee for Czech National Folksong in Moravia and Silesia headed by Leoš Janáček in cooperation with Hynek Bím and Františka Kyselková in the years 1909–1912. The purpose of the reflections is to give particular examples of limitations of the ethno-musicological research represented by various external and internal causes, and generalise barrier models characteristic for ethno-musicological research in the past. Příspěvek se zamýšlí nad situacemi vzniklými během nahrávání na fonograf, které realizoval Pracovní výbor pro českou národní píseň na Moravě a ve Slezsku pod vedením Leoše Janáčka v letech 1909–1912, za aktivní účasti sběratelů Hynka Bíma a Františky Kyselkové. Cílem těchto úvah je uvést konkrétní příklady, kdy byl etnomuzikologický výzkum limitován různými vnějšími i vnitřními příčinami, a abstrahovat obecné modely bariér, které byly v minulosti charakteristické pro etnomuzikologický výzkum.
