Dr. Schuh´s Projection Microscope and the “Daguerreotype in Practice”
Trnková, Petra
2018 - Czech
The central focus of the paper is one of three daguerreotype photomicrographs that have been preserved in Central European collections. Namely the one that is to be found today in the National Technical Museum in Prague, which has traditionally been attributed to the rector of the grammar school in Litomyšl (East Bohemia), Florus Ignatz Stašek. Attention is payed both to the technical conditions under which this image may have been created and the question of who was responsible for it, with reference to the role (which cannot be overlooked) played by one of the pioneers of photography and modern microscopy in Austria, Carl Schuh. Keywords: photography; daguerreotype; daguerreotype photomicrograph; Carl Schuh; Florus Ignatz Stašek (Staschek); projection microscope Available at various institutes of the ASCR

The Concept of the Cave and the Theory of All Art
Petrasová, Taťána
2018 - Czech
The text is based on the well-known fact that in the 18th century a merging of garden theory and architectural theory occurred, and raises the question of how the theory of architecture and the theory of gardens came to be linked. In the author’s view, the two theories were brought closer by the attempt at that time to create a universal theory of all art forms as advocated by Johann Wolfgang Goethe. Keywords: Czech lands; Germany; 18th century; Neo-Classicism; architecture; fine arts Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Carmelites and Slavonic Benedictines in the New Town of Prague
Benešovská, Klára
2017 - Czech
Both the monasteries founded by Charles IV were secured by the papal documents two years before the New Town of Prague was officially founded. The selection of these two orders and their location in future town development corresponds with their role in Charles’ vision of the new centre of the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Bohemia. Unlike earlier views, the author does not regard the two monasteries as an expression of young Charles’ efforts to penetrate the countries of schismatics with the help of the two orders. Obě klášterní fundace Karla IV. byly zajištěny papežskými listinami již roku 1346, dva roky před oficiálním založením Nového Města. Výběr právě těchto dvou řádů a jejich lokace v urbanismu budoucího města odpovídá jejich úloze v Karlově vizi nového centra římské říše a českého království. Na rozdíl od starších názorů autorka nevidí obě fundace jakožto projev snah mladého Karla pronikat s pomocí obou řádů do zemí schismatiků a nevěřících. Keywords: New Town of Prague; Charles IV; Carmelits; Slavonic Benedictines Emmaüs Available at various institutes of the ASCR
