The Verbs běžet and běhat (to Run) in the Lexicographical Point of View

2018 - Czech The paper deals with the dictionary treatment of two Czech verbs běžet and běhat in the monolingual Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech. The paper focuses on the morphological issues and semantic structure of the aforementioned verbs. Some of meanings are symmetrical, differ only in determinate – indeterminate character, and others are asymmetrical. All symmetries or asymmetries are reflected in the dictionary definitions. Special attention is paid to primary meaning: locomotion of living beings and to metaphorical and metonymic transfer establishing secondary meanings. Příspěvek se zaměřuje na lexikografické zpracování dvou českých sloves běžet a běhat v Akademickém slovníku současné češtiny. Pozornost je věnována morfologickým otázkám a sémantické struktuře daných sloves. Významové struktury obou sloves jsou do značné míry symetrické, liší se zejména sémantickými rysy determinovanosti – indeterminativnosti. V řadě významů se však vyskytují asymetrie. Všechny podobnosti a rozdíly jsou reflektovány ve slovníkových definicích těchto sloves. Zvláštní pozornost je v příspěvku věnována primárním významům: pohybu živých tvorů i metaforickým a také metonymickým posunům sekundárních významů. Proprial Phraseology in a Monolingual Dictionary

2018 - Czech This contribution focuses on possibilities of proprial phraseology processing in monolingual dictionaries. The paper presents the types of (de)proprial phrasemes by means of actual examples and compares the approaches to their lexicographical processing in the upcoming Academic Dictionary of Contemporary Czech (Akademický slovník současné češtiny), in the previous Czech and Slovak monolingual dictionaries and in the special Czech Dictionary of Idioms (Slovník české frazeologie a idiomatiky). Příspěvek se zabývá možnostmi zpracování propriální frazeologie ve výkladových slovnících. Představuje typy (de)propriálních frazémů na skutečných příkladech a porovnává přístupy k jejich zpracování v připravovaném Akademickém slovníku současné češtiny, v předcházejících českých a slovenských výkladových slovnících a speciálním Slovníku české frazeologie a idiomatiky. Laypersons’ language rules and their importance for language cultivation

2018 - Czech In investigating the language attitudes of the laypersons, the particular importance is attached to Folk-linguistics, still less explored field in Czech linguistics. Nonlinguists’comments about linguistic topics also include the codified language rules reflection, a rich source of linguistic and sociolinguistic data. This text brings results of the analysis of laypersons’ language rules that are often present in questions for the Language Consulting Centre of the Department of the Language Cultivation of the Czech Language Institute and shows their importance for the language handbooks-making process. Přestože je tzv. laická lingvistika nedílnou a důležitou součástí výzkumu v oblasti postojů k jazyku, v českém prostředí dosud zůstávala poněkud stranou. Vyjadřování postojů k jazyku ze strany běžných uživatelů přirozeně zahrnuje i reflexi jazykových pravidel, která je ze své podstaty bohatým zdrojem lingvistických a sociolingvistických dat. Článek analyzuje laická pravidla, jež se objevují v dotazech jazykové poradně oddělení jazykové kultury Ústavu pro jazyk český, a ukazuje je jako důležitý zdroj dat pro vytváření jazykových příruček. Neologisms in fashion

2018 - Czech The article deals with new words in dynamic area of fashion. Neologisms are understood here as neologisms in the narrower sense as well as nonce words. There are presented words related to fashion from the three Czech dictionaries of neologisms (1994, 1998, 2004). Expressions from the open e-dictionary Čeština 2.0 and our own excerpts are added. New inventive expressions are proof of the full-blooded life of the national language and proof of the language creativity of the bearers of the language, and thus become a useful document on the culture of the period. The current Czech dictionary of neologisms is substantially missing. Příspěvek se zabývá novými slovy v dynamické oblasti módy. Neologismy jsou zde chápány jako neologismy v užším smyslu i jako příležitostná pojmenování. Jsou představena slova týkající se módy ze tří českých slovníků neologismů (1994, 1998, 2004). Přidány jsou výrazy z otevřeného e-slovníku Čeština 2.0 a z vlastní excerpce. Nové nápadité výrazy jsou důkazem plnokrevného života národního jazyka i jazykové tvořivosti nositelů jazyka a stávají se užitečným dokumentem o kultuře doby. Deverbal nouns denoting an activity derived by suffixes -nka and -tka and the dating of their entering the Czech language

2018 - Czech This article is about verifying the conclusions of D. Šlosar concerning deverbal nouns denoting an activity with suffixes -nka and -tka. We focus in particular on the dating of their origin and on their quantity. For verification we use materials of the Department of Language Development of ÚJČ AV ČR. V příspěvku konfrontujeme poznatky D. Šlosara k slovotvorným sufixům dějových jmen -nka a -tka s materiálovou základnou staročeských slovníků dostupných na Vokabuláři webovém, staročeskou kartotékou OVJ ÚJČ AV ČR a Lexikální databází humanistické a barokní češtiny. Cílem je ověřit dataci vzniku daných jmen a jejich množství. Nicholas of Lyra’s exegetic method in the Old Czech translation of his Commentary on Matthew´s Gospel

2018 - Czech This paper focuses on Nicholas of Lyra’s (†1349) exegetic method described in the two prologues to his most important opus Postilla litteralis super totam Bibliam, which is based on a thorough analysis of the literal sense of the Scriptures. In this paper, this method of Lyra is demonstrated on the examples of the Old Czech translation of Lyra’s commentary on Matthew’s Gospel (the manuscript NL of the Czech Republic XVII C 20). Příspěvek se zabývá exegetickou metodou Mikuláše z Lyry (†1349) založenou na důkladném rozboru doslovného smyslu Písma, která je popsána ve dvou prolozích k jeho nejvýznamnějšímu dílu Postilla litteralis super totam Bibliam. Tato metoda je demonstrována na ve staročeském překladu tohoto Lyrova komentáře k Matoušovu evangeliu (rukopis NK ČR XVII C 20). Terminology in Daniel Adam of Veleslavín´s Nomenclators

2018 - Czech The paper is based on two ideological (or systemic) dictionaries by Daniel Adam of Veleslavín: Latin-Czech-German Nomenclator .... tribus linguis from 1586, and Czech-Latin-Greek-German dictionary Nomenclator quadrilinguis from 1598. We mainly focus on the semantic fields analysis of the vocabulary related to viticulture, medicaments, and medical treatments. In order to better explain the foreign term, Veleslavín often mentioned more Czech one-word equivalents for one foreign word (e.g. vinař, vinohradník – vine-grower) or equivalents of foreign (i.e. not originally Czech) origin (e.g. gargara – gargle). In case a one-word equivalent did not exist, Veleslavín used differently structured group of words and periphrases to convey the meaning (viničná tyčka – vineyard bar, lékařství pro kejchání – medicine for sneezing, mast na dírky potové – sweat-holes liniment, lékařství, kteréž vrásky shlazuje a shání – medicine that smooths up wrinkles). The dictionaries contain rather few neologisms. In case of new derivations and compounds, we find word-formation techniques applied in accordance with the Czech language system (hříženice, i.e. grapevine offshoot, zubitrh, i.e. who pulls out teeth). Most of the newly created lexemes did not survive till the contemporary Czech and they are only to be found in the dictionaries originating in Veleslavín`s lexicographical works, especially those by K. Z. Vusín and J. K. Rohn, as well as J. Dobrovský and J. Jungmann. Příspěvek vychází ze dvou věcně řazených slovníků Daniela Adama z Veleslavína: latinsko-česko-německého díla Nomenclator … tribus linguis z r. 1586 a česko-latinsko-řecko-německého slovníku Nomenclator quadrilinguis z roku 1598, analyzujeme zejména sémantická pole názvů týkajících se vinařství a léčiv a léčebných postupů. Veleslavín často uváděl více českých jednoslovných ekvivalentů za jeden cizojazyčný (vinař, vinohradník), aby tak lépe vysvětil pojem vyjádřený cizím slovem. Nevyhýbal se pojmenováním obrazným (sirotek, tj. révový keř tvořený jedním výhonkem) a cizojazyčným (gargara, tj. kloktadlo). Pokud jednoslovný výraz neexistoval, Veleslavín užíval různě strukturovaných spojení slov a opisů významu (viničná tyčka, lékařství pro kejchání, mast na dírky potové, lékařství, kteréž vrásky shlazuje a shání). Slovníky obsahují poměrně málo neologismů. U nových derivátů či kompozit můžeme shledávat slovotvorné postupy, které jsou v souladu s českým jazykovým systémem (hříženice, tj. odnož vinné révy, zubitrh, tj. kdo trhá zuby). Nově vytvořené lexémy vesměs nepřetrvaly do současné češtiny a vyskytují se pouze ve slovnících, které z Veleslavínových lexikografických prací vycházely, zvláště K. Z. Vusína a J. K. Rohna, ale i J. Dobrovského a J. Jungmanna. The Electronic Dictionary of Old Czech in the Context of Slavonic Studies

2018 - Czech The Electronic Dictionary of Old Czech (ESSČ, http://vokabular.ujc.cas.cz) is focused on Czech vocabulary from its first records to the end of the 15th century. ESSČ deals with the part of the alphabet processed in the incomplete Old Czech Dictionary (na–při, Praha 1968–2008), providing entries of the alphabetical extent A–M and přib- – Ž. ESSČ lacks a unifying editing work, being an authorial dictionary in which exemplifications of particular meanings of lexical units are also missing. The dictionary mainly focuses on appellatives. Due to the descriptive method, residing in the reconstruction of the entire semantic structure of lexical units emphasizing their inner semantic development, ESSČ represents a relevant source of use in the field of Czech or Slavonic studies and in etymology. Elektronický slovník staré češtiny zachycuje slovní zásobu češtiny od počátků jejího písemného doložení do konce 15. století. Obsahuje lexémy v rozmezí hesel A–M a přib- – Ž, neboť abecedně navazuje na nedokončený Staročeský slovník (na–při, Praha 1968–2008). Jedná se o slovník autorský a nedokladový, zaměřený na zpracování apelativní slovní zásoby. Díky své metodě, při níž nediferenčně rekonstruuje sémantickou strukturu lexikální jednotky se zohledněním jejího vnitřního vývoje, je ESSČ (i přes nedokladovost) významným informačním zdrojem, využitelným v rámci bohemistiky, slavistiky i etymologie.
