In this article, the author illustrates how and why does Silesian identity pose a challenge to the assumption that a fixed ethno-national identity is a natural and necessary form of a modern society and an indispensable analytic unit.

Die Publikation ist ein weiterer Teil der Serie von Sammelschriften, die auf der Grundlage der mitteleuropäischen frühgeschichtlichen Konferenzen Archäologie der Barbaren entstehen. Die hier veröffentlichten Studien stellen größtenteils eine umgearbeitete textliche Version der Vorträge, die bei der Konferenz Archäologie der Barbaren 2015 in Räumlichkeiten des MAMUZ Museums Mistelbach in Niederösterreich gehalten wurden. Das Hauptthema der Konferenz waren Kelten und Germanen im Mitteldonaugebiet in archäologischen und numismatischen Quellen (2. Jh. v. Chr. – 2. Jh. n. Chr.). Behandelt wurden jedoch auch weitere Phänomene der frühgeschichtlichen. Intensiv diskutiert wurden unter anderem die thematischen Bereiche der absoluten und relativen Chronologie der Übergangshorizonte, die Fragen der Monetarisierung und Aussage der numismatischen Fundverbände, die militärischen, wirtschaftlichen und diplomatischen Interaktionen entlang der nord-südlichen Achse der Region und weitere partielle Themen. Entsprechende Studien zu den meisten dieser Fragen finden die Leser auch in dem vorliegenden Sammelband, der insgesamt 18 Studien von Autoren aus der Tschechischen Republik, der Slowakei, Polen, Ungarn und Deutschland enthält. The publication is the latest in the series of proceedings based on materials from Central European protohistoric conferences Archaeology of Barbarians. For the most part, the studies published here are a revised text of the lectures given at the 2015 conference Archaeology of Barbarian at the MAMUZ Museum Mistelbach in Lower Austria. The main theme of the conference was the Celts and Germanic tribes in the Middle Danube Region in archaeological and numismatic sources (2nd century BC - 2nd century AD), but space was also given to other phenomena of protohistoric development. Intensive discussions included, among other things, absolute and relative chronology of transitional horizons, issues of monetization and testimony of numismatic groups, military, economic and diplomatic interactions along the north-south axis of the region and other sub-themes. For most of these questions, readers will find relevant studies in the present proceedings, which contains a total of 18 studies by authors from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Germany.

Tagungsband mit 25 der Problematik der Bewaffnung und Reiterausrüstung des 8.-10. Jahrhunderts in Ostmitteleuropa gewidmeten Beiträgen. Er eröffnet ein breites Spektrum der Fragen, die von der Typologie und Chronologie über die Produktionstechnologie und praktische Anwendung von Artefakten bis hin zu allgemeinen Problematik des Militärwesens in frühmittelalterlicher Gesellschaft reichen. Neben der vorwiegenden archäologischen Sicht bietet er die Aussage von Historie und anderen Fachbereichen. Es fehlt nicht ein archäologisches Experiment. This volume is a collection of 25 conference papers dealing with the arms and equestrian equipment in the East and Central Europe between the 8th and 10th centuries. It brings a wide variety of issues, from typology and chronology through manufacturing technology and a practical application of artefacts to the general questions of medieval warfare. It presents finds both from the settlement and grave contexts. The predominant archaeological perspective is completed by historical and other studies, including a scientific experiment.

The Crossroads III – A Stranger in the House. Foreigners in Ancient Egyptian and Near Eastern Societies of the Bronze Age conference has been held at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University (Prague) between September 10 and 13, 2018. The main objective of the conference was to enhance our understanding of “foreignness” in ancient societies between the end of the Chalcolithic period and the end of the Late Bronze Age. This book collects some of the twenty most significant contributions presented at the conference. Some authors decided to approach the discussion from a theoretical perspective, or to present and discuss theoretical frameworks that could be used to explore at least some elements underlying the concept of “foreignness”. Others investigated sociocultural dimension involved in the presence of foreigners, or in their interactions with local communities. Cases from Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Levant, covering the whole of the Bronze Age have been discussed. The wide range of perspectives, and their combination within the frame of the conference often stimulated that multidisciplinary dialogue that was the primary aim of this third edition of Crossroads

Publikace Jak psát transkulturní literární dějiny? obsahuje vybrané příspěvky z mezinárodní konference uspořádané 15. – 16. 11. 2018 Germanobohemistickým týmem Ústavu pro českou literaturu AV ČR v.v.i. Konference se zaměřila na teoretickou a metodologickou problematiku psaní dějin vícero literárních kultur v různých jazycích, jež koexistovaly na území českých zemí. Její součástí jsou příspěvky týkající se jak středověké slovesné produkce, exponovaného “dlouhého” 19. století až k první polovině století 20., tak i tematizující i celou řadu problémových okruhů (překlad, kulturní transfer, periodizace, vícejazyčnost, kánon, regionalismus, konfesionalismus) i teoretických a metodologických přístupů (postkoloniální studia, transkulturní teorie, nový historismus). Vedle odborného záměru rovněž usiluje tento sborník stimulovat další debaty o podobě budoucí literárněhistorické syntézy literatur(y) českých zemí napříč obory – bohemistikou, germanistikou i dalšími filologiemi a rovněž kulturní vědou či sociální a politickou historií. A publication How to write a transcultural literary history? contains selected contributions from the international conference held on 15th - 16th November 2018 by the Group for Research on Czech-German Intercultural Relations in the Bohemian Lands in the Institute of Czech Literature of the ASCR. The conference focused on the theoretical and methodological issues of writing the history of several literary cultures in different languages that coexisted in the Bohemian lands. It includes contributions concerning medieval literary production, the exposed “long” 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, as well as a number of problem areas (translation, cultural transfer, periodization, multilingualism, canon, regionalism, confessionalism) and theoretical and methodological approaches (postcolonial studies, transcultural theory, new historicism). In addition to the scholarly intent, this collection also seeks to stimulate further debates on the form of future literary-historical synthesis of literatures of Bohemian Lands across disciplines - Czech studies, German studies and other philologies, as well as cultural science or social and political history.

Sborníkem se zahajuje soustavnější výzkum České národní rady a obecně národních parlamentů ve federativním Československu. Obsahuje odborné studie týkající se zakládání České národní rady v roce 1968, jejího parlamentního života v období normalizace i oživení po roce 1989. Druhou část tvoří vzpomínky aktérů všech tří etap tak, jak byly zaznamenány při konferenci. The volume opens a systematic research of the Czech National Council and more generally, of national parliaments in federal Czechoslovakia. It includes studies on establishing the National Council in 1968, its parliamentary life in late Socialist period as well as its revival after 1989. The second part contains memories by actors of all three of these stages recorded during the conference.

Tématem plzeňského sympozia pro rok 2018 je čas – jeho význam pro člověka a společnost dlouhého 19. století. Modernizační procesy, jimiž se toto historické období vyznačuje, vedly k potlačení cyklického vnímání času ve prospěch linearity. Čas a jeho reflexe se z mysli filozofů a vědců přesunuly do každodenního života většiny lidí. Sympozium se těmto tématům věnovalo na základě otázek, které jsou v současnosti aktuální pro výzkum této problematiky z hlediska humanitních a sociálních věd.
