XIVth Youth symposium on Experimental Solid Mechanics
Major, Z.; Kytýř, Daniel
2016 - English
The Youth Symposium on Experimental Solid Mechanics traditionally brings together young researchers and engineers, students and PhD students, who are actively involved in the experimental solids mechanics, theoretically and practically, in order to exchange their experience, to report on the present state-of-art as well as on running research projects, to discuss due questions and problems and to promote the cooperation among individuals as well as among institutions. The XIVth symposium continues both, the long tradition of this conference series and introduces novel elements. The combination of the experimental mechanics with modern numerical methods was focused. This year, participants from 12 countries attended the symposium. Based on their presentations, 19 papers were selected for the publication in this issue of Acta Polytechnica CTU Proceedings. Keywords: experimental solids mechanics; numerical methods Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Book of abstracts. International symposium on experimental methods and numerical simulation in engineering sciences 2016
Kytýř, Daniel; Zlámal, Petr; Jiroušek, O.
2016 - English
The International Symposium on Experimental Methods and Numerical Simulation in Engineering Sciences continues the tradition of the Czech-German bilateral symposium founded by prof. Karl-Hans Laermann and prof. Stanislav Holý in 1985. In the following years, the symposium was extensively developed by prof. Josef Jíra. The symposium shall bring together mainly young scientists who are actively involved in experimental solid mechanics, theoretically and practically, in order to exchange experience, to report on the present state-of-art as well as on running research projects, to discuss due questions and problems and to promote the co-operation between individuals as well as between institutions. Therefore in the symposium discussions will play a highly significant role. Keywords: mechanics; numerical models; experimental methods Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Proceedings of the 15th International Seminar on Recent Trends in Charged Particle Optics and Surface Physics Instrumentation
Mika, Filip
2016 - English
The origins of the seminar “Recent Trends in Charged Particle Optics and Surface Physics Instrumentation” date back into the eighties, when as a part of the isolated “Eastern Bloc”, we were short of English-language books, papers and conferences. In 1990, at the second Seminar, there were as many as 30 participants from 5 countries. The third Seminar in 1992 was moved to hotel Skalský dvur in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands where it has been held as a biannual meeting ever since.\nThe Seminar takes place in a secluded lakeside hotel surrounded by beautiful nature and calm forests, so all participants have a great possibility to see each other every day and to discuss their topics of interest in more detail. This is a great advantage compared to the huge bustling conferences with their many parallel sections, which are a lively celebration of science but\nsometimes it is difficult to meet there the person with whom you want to discuss a particular scientific topic in more detail.\nFrom the very beginning, the Seminar has been conceived as a meeting devoted more to asking questions not answered yet, than to reporting results. This spirit is usually less present in the introductory presentations and posters but is dominant in the following discussions.\n Keywords: electron microscopy Available at various institutes of the ASCR

Book of Abstracts: 17th International Conference on the Strength of Materials
Dlouhý, Antonín; Kunz, Ludvík
2015 - English
The Book of Abstracts covers twelve exciting scientific topics addressed by the International Conference on the Strength of Materials 17 (ICSMA 17). Eight excellent plenary speakers were selected based on the discussion and vote within the International Committee of ICSMA. The topics include not only traditional areas like cyclic or high temperature deformation and scale-bridging modeling but also still growing subjects of nano-micro scale experiments and the strength of biological systems. Moreover, the Local Organizing Committee, in cooperation with the Department of Materials Physics, Charles University in Prague, has decided to highlight the 80th anniversary of Prof. Pavel Lukáč, a brilliant international teacher and scientist. The thirteenth topic of the ICSMA 17 is thus dedicated to honour his contribution to materials research. Altogether, the Book presents 376 abstracts evenly distributed among the individual research areas that entered the scope of the conference. Keywords: Materials; Strength; Plasticity; Dislocations Available at various institutes of the ASCR

FLC-15: Challenges in polar self-assembling systems
Bubnov, Alexej; Glogarová, Milada
2015 - English
This is the Book of Abstracts for the 15th International Conference on Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals (FLC-15 conference) held in Prague on June 28 - July 3, 2015. The broadening of the field compared to the beginning of this biennial series in 1987 is expressed in the conference subtitle: Challenges in polar self-assembling systems. The continuous worldwide interest to this conference series is proving that it has still a respected position within the series of International/European conferences on liquid crystals covering all interdisciplinary field of the liquid crystal research. At the FLC-15 conference more than 130 participants from 25 countries all over the world will present 5 key-note lectures, 14 invited talks and selected 39 oral contributions. The number has been limited to keep the single session conference format as it is a tradition for the FLC conference series. About 90 posters were presented in two poster sessions. For your convenience, the FLC-15 conference program is presented in this book. Keywords: ferroelectric liquid crystals; polar liquid crystalline phases Available at various institutes of the ASCR
