A smooth-optimization-based algorithm for solving a nonsmooth optimization problem arising in maximum range problems with fuzzy input data

In maximum range problems, the input parameters of an analyzed model are uncertain and the range of the model output values is searched for. If the input values form a fuzzy set with a known membership function, then the goal is to determine the membership function of the output values, that is, to determine the fuzziness of the quantity of interest. A recently proposed integration-based input membership function and the common .alpha.- cut technique are used to achieve this goal. Although this approach can lead to a nonsmooth optimization problem, it is shown that the nonsmooth problem can be decomposed into a sequence of smooth subproblems and solved by standard smooth optimization routines. Příspěvek se zabývá eliptickou diferenciální rovnicí, jejíž koeficient je funkcí jedné reálné proměnné a náleží do fuzzy množiny přípustných funkcí. Fuzzifikace přípustné množiny je definována prostřednictvím pomocné funkce příslušnosti, jež je spojitá a po částech lineární. Přibližné řešení problému vede na úlohu nehladké optimalizace. V práci je navržen algoritmus, který nehladkou optimalizaci obchází tím, že původní nehladký optimalizační problém řeší jako posloupnost dílčích hladkých optimalizačních úloh řešitelných běžně dostupnými metodami. Algoritmus je ilustrován numerickým příkladem.

Towards optimal shape functions for hierarchical Hermite elements

In this paper we derive an orthonormal basis for hierarchic higher-order H2-conforming finite elements in one spatial dimension. This basis is optimal from the point of view of the conditioning of the resulting discrete algebraic problem and from the point of view of the quality of the local interpolation. In addition to its direct application in hp-FEM and hp-adaptivity for Hermite elements in 1D this basis can be used for the design of quality higher-order hierarchic Hermite and Argyris elements in higher spatial dimensions. V článku odvozujeme ortonormální bázi pro hierarchické H2 konformní konečné elementy vyšších řádů v jedné prostorové dimenzi. Báze je optimální z hlediska podmíněnosti výsledné diskrétní algebraické úlohy a z hlediska kvality lokální interpolace. Kromě přímého užití v hp-metodě konečných elementů a pro hp-adaptivitu při užití Hermitových elementů v 1D může tato báze být užita pro návrh kvalitních hierarchických Hermitových a Argyrisových elementů vyšších řádů ve vyšších prostorových dimenzích.

The structure of high purity (99,99%)aluminium processed by ECAP in the as pressed state after different number of passes was examined using various stereological methods. An extreme inhomogeneity and complicated anisotropy was observed along the body of rod-like specimens. Struktura velmi čistého hliníku (99,99%) vyrobeného metodou ECAP s různým počtem průchodů byla zkoumána několika stereologickými metodami. Byla zjištěna výrazná nehomogenita a komplikovaná anisotropie podél tyčovitých vzorků.

The Problem of Adaptivity for hp-FEM

The hp-version of the finite element method (hp-FEM) is extremely efficient numerical method for solving partial differential equations. In comparison with low-order methods it is capable to achieve exponential rate of convergence even though the solution has singularities and/or boundary/internal layers. To achieve the exponential convergence it is necessary to adapt both the geometry of the mesh and the polynomial degrees. However, the optimal hp-adaptive strategy is still unknown. This paper gives brief introduction into the problematic of hp-FEM and hp-adaptivity and emphasizes those parts that are not optimally solved yet. Metoda konečných prvků (MKP) a její hp-verze (hp-MKP) je velmi účinná numerická metoda pro řešení parciálních diferenciálních rovnic. Na rozdíl od metod nižších řádů je hp-MKP schopna dosáhnout exponenciálních řad konvergence a to dokonce v případech, kdy řešení má singularity a nebo vnitřní či hraniční vrstvy. K dosažení exponenciální konvergence je nutné adaptovat současně geometrii sítě i polynomiální stupně. Nicméně optimální způsob hp-adaptivity je stále neznámý. Tento článek poskytuje stručný úvod do problematiky hp-MKP a hp-adaptivity a zdůrazňuje ty části, které zatím nejsou optimálně vyřešeny.

Homogenization of the steady Navier-Stokes equations in domain with a fine-grain body was studied. The aim of this paper is to construct the average problem, where we have one more term, vc(x)u(x), where c(x) we get from capacity of the holes. Homogenizace stacionárních Navier-Stokesových rovnic v perforované oblasti. Cílem článku je zkonstruovat nové řešení, kde máme navíc člen vc(x)u(x), kde c(x) dodáváme z kapacity děr.

The endeavour to solve systems of linear algebraic systems is already two thousand years old. In the paper we consider the conjugate gradient method that is (theoretically) finite but, in practice, it can be treated as an iterative method. We survey a known modification of the method, the preconditioned conjugate gradient method, that may converge faster than the original one. Snaha řešit soustavy lineárních algebraických rovnic je stará již dva tisíce let. V příspěvku se zabývám metodou sdružených gradientů, která je ( teoreticky ) přímá metoda, ale v praxi může být považována za iterační metodu. Přehledně popisuji známou modifikaci metody, předpodmíněnou metodu sdružených gradientů, která může konvergovat rychleji než původní metoda.

The contribution reports on a case study in which a group of teachers shifted from reflective practitioners to the teacher-researcher via qualified (joint) pedagogical reflection with researchers. Qualified pedagogical reflection includes observation, contemplation and consideration, description and analysis of key elements, evaluation or revaluation, ways of explanation, accepting decisions and determining a new strategy. It creates space for the transition from an intuitive to a conscious and justified teachers´action in mathematics lessons. Příspěvek informuje o případové studii ukazující posun několika učitelů od "reflektujícího praktika" k učiteli-výzkumníkovi cestou kvalifikované (společné) pedagogické reflexe. Kvalifikovaná pedagogická reflexe zahrnuje pozorování, popis a analýzu klíčových elementů,hodnocení atd. Vytváří prostor pro přechod od intuitivní k uvědomělé a odůvodňované činnosti učitele ve vyučování matematice.
